though i certainly wouldn't call him possessive, i think. he likes it when you're happy, when you're doing the things you love. besides, he's always out and about handling affairs, and is just so in love to see you patiently wait for him, no matter how long.

i also think that's where the two of you began establishing a very healthy relationship.

but sometimes? sometimes he's not afraid of showing it off either. say in a scenario, you're in a party, chatting away with your friends or perhaps the chrysos heirs. he's not worried one bit - he's aware of said people and trusts them enough with your safety.

The problem with people who vehemently hate Jinshi and Jinmao is that they desperately want the author, story, and other people to view him and the ship like they do. This is why they spread misinformation about the story, precisely because the story never treats Jinshi as a villain or a monster for any of his mistakes or blunders, even when he is shown to be in the wrong. There is a clear line the series draws regarding actions like r@pe, child abuse, pedophilia, assault, etc. (compare how the previous emperor is depicted, the question of how to lower a courtesan’s value, or Lakan’s initial appearance to how Jinshi is treated).

I always see the mentions of “Maomao is forced to oblige because of status” and that “she could get her head cut off if she refuses him.” There is commentary about power imbalances throughout the story, and their relationship is no exception. However, that is not to say that these comments are accurate.

People always say that Maomao cannot refuse Jinshi, and sure, in theory that is true — someone of her status cannot refuse someone of his, or *shouldn’t* be able to. As she gets to know him throughout the series, it becomes increasingly clear to her that he would not harm her, rejection or not. Take the honey scene for example: it’s very early on in their relationship, and Maomao here has reason to believe she would face punishment for refusal. Even with that in mind, she still makes it very clear that she was uncomfortable with his advancements. The author makes it easy for the audience to understand when Maomao does not approve of something (honey scene, Lakan, etc.), so we have all the reason to believe that if Maomao felt the same way about Jinshi’s other advances (frog scene, LN 5 epilogue, etc.) that the author would make it known in some way or another. Instead, there are often conflicting feelings present when it comes to his serious advancements.

Maomao fears deepening her connection with Jinshi because of all the trouble it could bring her way. She also fears abandonment and worries that, if she makes the decision to be vulnerable and honest, that she will suffer the same fate as her mother and many other women did; she feels that she cannot let herself love or be loved (both romantically and platonically). She does not truly operate as someone who fears or detests him.

This becomes especially evident when you compare Maomao’s interactions with other people of higher status to those with Jinshi. Even with those who favor her, she maintains a polite and professional atmosphere, yet treats him with what would be taken as disrespect by anyone else in his position.

The refusal to accept that the romance subplot — something decided upon years ago that has unequivocal development on both sides of the relationship — is very much there and crucial to the story colors takes on the author’s intent with their scenes.

Natsu Hyuuga has said that her favourite scene to write was the frog scene. If it was meant to depict assault, and not to show two individuals pushing each other's buttons, then would we say that she was happy to write about a man assaulting a woman? Nothing about her clear depictions of assault and its effects within the story vs. how Maomao and Jinshi moments are depicted suggests that they are remotely the same or should be taken as such.

While the frog scene drives the plot forward (Maomao gets full confirmation that Jinshi is not a real eunuch) it also has romantic and comedic undertones that cannot be divorced from it (regardless of how the scene made some feel on a personal level). Just because the writing for a romance does not cater to one's personal tastes does not mean that the romance in these scenes are not present.

It's also a show of vulnerability (romance aside) on Jinshi’s part in wanting to share his secret with Maomao. She expresses worry, not in fear that he would harm her, but rather because she does not want to deal with the baggage that comes with being privy to what she perceived to be a crime in that moment (uncastrated man in the rear palace).

This is not to say his behavior in the scene was okay, and the series acknowledges this by having him apologize. Maomao also apologized as she was also not entirely innocent either.

Disliking him and the scene is fine, but the story not once paints him as the evil r@pist people try to make him out to be, and they must accept that. Don’t expect the story or author to validate such claims / feelings.

He is a multifaceted character, much like Maomao. You are not meant to agree with his every action, but he is painted as a genuinely good person overall. Their emphasis placed on him being too kind and caring to be emperor (a sentiment Maomao holds) suggests as much.

Also, those who say that the author actually wanted to write romance between Maomao and any other character in the story tend to use the author not initially planning a romantic subplot as justification for why the main ship of the series is bad or “forced”. If she wasn’t planning on making Maomao fall in love with anyone, how can one say that she actually wanted to make her fall in love with xyz? It would be one thing if the logic used was consistent. I promise that it's okay to hate things because you don’t vibe with it.

Genreally speaking, the lack of reading between the lines in this fandom gets rather annoying and does a disservice to both the author and her work.

2. What is your Jirai Kei unpopular opinion?

Uh.. I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I think you should be allowed to call yourself Jirai even if you do not dress in Jirai fashion. I for one look like the Franken Hooker and I find that Jirai/Landmine describes me very well. Which isn't to say that I don't love the fashion and aesthetics, I just don't have the money and I prefer to shop sustainably (pretty much everything I get is bought from thrift/second hand stores and there is not going to be any Jirai stuff there, at least not where I live)

8. What is Jirai Kei to you?

To me, since I don't dress the part of Jirai Kei, it's a community of mentally ill individuals (mainly teenagers) who engage in self destructive behaviors and support one another !! I'm not good at explaining things in words, I have more of a feeling for how to describe this.. I promise I'm not a fake !!

13. What healthy coping mechanism do you use?

I have a journal that I write in sometimes.. Mostly when I don't have anything to be chronically online on, because other than that I just pretend I'm not real, and my computer definitely helps with that !! Also c.ai and reading x reader fanfics..

15. Favourite game?

You are a horrible person for asking me this, sigh.. Bioshock is definitely one of my favourites because it was one of my first introduction to actually playing games myself (before that I just watched my uncle or dad play games !! I used to force my dad to play Darkest Dungeon for me when I was like 6 so I could watch) and I love Sanders Cohen !! Skyrim is another one of my favourites and it was all I played for a long time, Cicero is my favourite in that one.. I love WATGBS but I haven't finished it yet, mostly because I accidentally deleted the game and I'm scared it doesn't have any of my save files anymore, I also love ITGG but I actually don't know much about it, I'm just insane over Ivlis. I own pretty much all of the Resident Evil games but my favourite of those is RE Revelations for the Nintendo DS. I obviously adore Guilty Gear !! But I suck at playing strive and I can't play any of the other games because I don't have the correct consoles (I reallyyy want GGXRD, Accent Core R+, and Isuka.) Dishonored is also amazing but I haven't ever finished it.. I'm not good at finishing things. My favourite gacha game is obviously Honkai Star Rail !! I love it so much, it's so enjoyable to play but it also gives me extreme crashouts.. But it just doesn't hold the same sentiment as console games to me, I also love WuWa and ZZZ, I'm less into Genshin now that I've completed Sumeru though (Dottore is my absolute favourite Genshin character !!) I love a lot of the Indie Otome games you can find on Itch.io, Killer Chat is especially one of my favourites, my shitty Ronin fanart is still my most liked Tumblr post of all time, sadly.. But 14DWY is another one of my favourites, I love any of the Yan dating sims, they're pretty much all I play in terms of computer games apart from games made by Funamusea. I'm also a huge Shin Megami Tensei enjoyer, I'm still playing through IV Apocolypse, I have the Switch exclusive game but I sadly can't play it.. Also, if you like Persona, know that all the Persona games are spinoffs of SMT !!! I also love the Silent Hill games but I haven't finished any of them, I have waaaayyyy more to say on this topic, but I've already written enough..

16. Are you in a relationship or currently crushing on someone?

No I am not !! I don't think I'm crushing on anyone, but romance and romantic feelings are just very difficult for me, I don't understand them and I don't really know when I'm feeling them (apart for when it's for a fictional character.) For a large number of reasons interpersonal relationships are very very difficult for me, I get very volatile in romantic relationships (I hate people who are overly understanding and I will force my partner to be extremely toxic towards me or else I'm afraid they'll leave, which only makes them want to leave more..) and I can be very manipulative, I've had some horrible romantic relationships that have just fucked me up worse than before !! So for my sake, and the sake of others, hope that I don't have a crush and if I do that I can resist wanting to enter a romantic relationship with them !! I can have extreme platonic relationships where I feel like we're soulmates who are made for one another though !! I have found otherwise that it is easy for me to have a "crush" on my fp but that's just because I equate an obsession to being a crush !! I do have some tumblr obsessions though lolol, but that's mostly just an intense urge to be friends !! I go about it horribly though..

Oh god I'm going to have to shorten this list.. Uhm, Gabriel from The Mandela Catalogue (I really wish Angel Engine wasn't AI slop or I would have loved to get into it..), The Red Pyramid Thing from SH2, and Sanders Cohen from Bioshock !! I have way worse than this but I'm not dropping those here..

29. What is a random fact about yourself?

This is kind of gross but I've mentioned before that I used to be pretty much an auto-vampirist, that being someone who drinks their own blood, so I used to saw into my gums until I started bleeding and I would suck a bunch of blood out then spit it into a container until I had enough that I could drink it. I stopped doing the spit method after an incident where I had left it in the container for a few minutes too long and I was left with cold, congealed blood.. And I drank it and I will never forget that taste, thinking about it makes me want to vomit. I did continue to drink my own blood, just I stopped spitting it out.

south node synastry is in my opinion very karmic. it feels like you've known each other since past life (because you have) but your encounter is more of a unfinished business between you two. whether from past life or something else, it rarely lasts.

moon conjunct saturn - this synastry can feel hard, but it does last if both individuals work on it. the moon person may feel judged by saturn person when opening up. while saturn person doesn't like opening up, they feel a need to 'fix' the moon person.

moon opposite moon - both parties have a different view on life and values. you may care for each other deeply, but there is a need for constant work to be able to balance that out.

it is a little bit wild that by virtue of ats s5 being the last canon tv installment of the buffyverse, spike and angel's arcs culminate in... each other. like spike isn't allowed to rest after his sacrifice because the network needs to pull more viewers his new hero status has to be put to the test against angel. angel can't comfortably rest on his laurels as the vampire with the soul because spike is there. their arcs with buffy shape them into the people they eventually become, but canon deliberately leaves the future of those relationships ambiguous! ats is where they go to figure out how to lead lives without buffy but with the other vampire-with-a-soul in them. and i don't even mean this in the way where spike/angel is somehow more meaningful or romantically endgame than their other relationships, i just mean like... those two old dudes are never gonna escape each other, for better or for worse. like there's literally a whole prophecy to that effect. wild stuff.
